Camp NaNoWriMo Rebel

We are in the last gasp of summer and the final week at Camp NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) where the campers are writing 50,000 word novels in one month. In my cabin of 5 people and one dog named Waffles, I am a memorist hiding out among the novelists. This first time I have been writing my memoirs during Camp NaNoWriMO going against the grain. I am writing my memoir “Two Step” a story of a Native American woman finding herself, her higher power, and true love.  Behind closed doors it is strange to talk with the novelists. They describe elaborate fictional characters and daring plots to unravel the challenges they are in. While I describe to them the challenges of revealing intimate details of my life and how to oraganize it. But maybe it’s not too far off. I once read somewhere that your memoir must read right like a novel so perhaps my background in writing novel drafts may serve me well as a memoirist too.

As a Camp NaNoWriMo Rebel, I redefine Camp NaNoWriMo as a camp for writing where my goal is to reach 50,000 words by the end of August. I started off with a blast! To get into the spirit of Camp I went and watched a bunch of camp movies. I went through my old journals and got inspired with posts that included details that I had long forgotten. I used on trial period to try out Scrivener software that was very helpful to organizing the details of my story through easy to use index cards and and the binder. Several Camp NaNoWriMo campers highly recommended Scrivener to use for writing my memoir. For most part, Scrivener has been invaluable though it took me a while to learn how to use it. I went through all the tutorials and watched several videos on how to use the software effectively. When I had a problem compiling my document the tech support for Scrivener were awesome in providing a quick response to my request that helped correct my problem quite easily. I have one glitch that recently surfaced that I am going to need to write to them about though. All participants in Camp NaNoWriMo get 20% off of Scrivener and those that validate at 50,000 words can get 50% off of Scrivener.

I have been writing in NaNoWriMo in the original month of November since 2007 generating mulitple drafts of novels. Camp NaNoWriMo first appeared in 2011 and I participated in both June and July of that year. I also participated in June this year and in August. However, this is the first time I have ever written in any NaNoWriMos and gotten sick for a whole week. Yes, for Camp I was in bed with swollen tonsils. That puts a big damper on all the summer festivities. Right now I have managed to reach 40,004 words in my memoir. It’s the final week of Camp NaNoWriMo. The last chance to reach my goals. I just received my Camp NaNoWriMo t-shirt after a few weeks waiting and I am proudly going to wear it at work tomorrow. No matter if I reach the goal or not I will remember the fabulous experience I had with my cabin mates, and taking the time to invest in my creative dreams. Being in Camp NaNoWriMo has taught me the value of surrounding myself with writers and sharing writing challenges and accomplishments together. Already, I can say that my experience with Camp NaNoWriMo has been a success!

Warm regards,

Walking in This World Check In June 19, 2012

Greetings fellow travelers,

I first want to extend gratitude for all of you who have been reading and following my check ins as I journey in Walking in This World. I have completed the 12th and final week of Walking in This World. I am amazed how the time just flew by. I am grateful for all the positive friendships I have made along this journey. Thank you to The Artist’s Way Circle and the Sparkling Path Walkers for being so supportive and loving to me as I went on this adventure. The friendships that have developed and grown during this particular journey have been priceless. I feel like such a blessed person to have known you and had the privilege to walk with you as well. Thank you so much.

I wrote 5/7 Morning Pages this past week. I didn’t always write a full three pages because I think I just was ready for the 12 week cycle to come to an end.

My Artist’s Date I would have liked to have was a chance to see George Takei (Mr. Sulu) at the Lakefront Festival of the Arts in Milwaukee, WI. Unfortunately, I did not have sufficient funds to make this happen. But I did enjoy viewing pictures of the festival including one with George Takei standing next to a sculpture of a woman at the Milwaukee Art Museum. What I ended up doing was playing online games because they were free. I have been a long time fan of Hidden Chronicles since the game first came out. I like solving hidden puzzle games. Some of the artwork in the scenes are so beautiful including some wonderful music. Many scenes take you to places around the world and of different cultures. Lately, I have been also playing a lot of Bingo because it helps take my mind off my worries.

I did some my walking around my neighborhood from the clinic to my home and also around the downtown area. As of right now it’s still spring and we have had some cool and refreshing walking weather.

Issue of recovery is planning for the right next step. I have talked with members of The Artist’s Way Circle and there are a few that want to do the “Writing Diet” by Julia Cameron. I am interested in putting my health number one this summer so I also would like to do the Writing Diet. I was thinking for the food journaling I could take pictures of the food that I am going to eat using my smart phone. I also would like to use the Kindle App for PC and Android phone to purchase a Kindle version of the “Writing Diet” for $7.99. This will be the first Kindle purchase for me and I am interesting to see how it will turn out. In July 11th I am planning a special celebration for my birthday. In August I am going to be a Camp NaNoWriMo rebel and rewrite my romance novel “Two Step” a story of a Native American woman searching for herself, her higher power, and true love .I am doing “Finding Water,” Julia Cameron’s 3rd Artist’s Way book in the Fall.  From now til December I plan on working on my business plan. I feel that the time is right to focus on this project now and I believe that I can accomplish this goal within 6 months. I plan to use this blog and my YouTube channel to share my progress on my journey of self employment. So many wonderful things coming up. Please stay tuned for the latest developments.

Warm regards,

she didn’t just survive~ she became.

That’s what my refrigerator magnet says on my refrigerator. It reminds me that yes I have been through alot of difficult challenges in my life, but it also speaks about my ability to move beyond that and to thrive! Yes THRIVE! I love that word! It contains  such power, magic, and possibility. I really want to connect in this way with myself, get out of my own way, and shine out in the world. Now I feel I am the healthiest I have ever been and I feel great!

When I was at the women’s retail store and wellness sanctuary and taking the Life GPS course I see that the course has helped me be sharper in focus on what I really want in life. I felt the day I started the course 14 weeks ago I was way off course.  The man who runs the Life GPS course is a Life Coach by the name Rick Paddock. He is intensely beautiful and highly sensitive guy. I don’t really trust guys in general. Though I felt I could trust Rick and I talk alot to him. Rick sponsored me for NAMI Walks where I raised $285 in my very first walk.  He took great joy when I explained how well things went with NAMI Walks that it was a great celebration of both my physical and mental health recovery. When I was walking the walk by myself because the group walked much faster ahead than I, I talked to the Creator and expressed gratitude about all the good in my life. I am grateful for all the things that Creator does and doesn’t do. I filmed my walk as I was walking NAMI Walks but the camera was bouncing with every step I take. So I don’t know how I can make it work to get a video on the net with it. I was thinking about using the footage in the park and narrating over talking about some of thoughts and prayers that came to me as I walked the walk. So, Rick is a huge supporter of mine. He leaves me really heartfelt emails and hugs me alot. He listens to me when I talk about my novels, he says I am an empath, and that I am highly sensitive.  He speaks highly of me to Dani the store owner and said he really thinks I am something special and wants to work closer with me. Rick is concerned I don’t always put my needs first and that I give too much to other people because I am a caregiver. He is right about that, I have a hard time telling people what I need. He gets excited when I tell him about my creative dreams and the creative projects I have been working on or developed. During the last session we were talking about the Tree of Life and I latched into wanting to define my Life Purpose which the handout says is the trunk of the tree. I had all kinds of questions about that and he was helping me to clarify that. He said he has a Life Purpose exercise he wants to bring into the course next month. After the last LIFE GPS course he surprised me by asking me to write or make a video testimonial for him for his website. I am so honored he asked me to do that. Which is really great.  I shared my history of being abused by men,  I told him having a positive male relationship helps me to heal my female spirit.

Yes, that is a step I took to become. I also wrote a book titled “Resentments” which I finally expressed all the things and people that I was angry about. Usually, I never really expressed my anger. I just bottled it up and wasn’t even aware that I was angry. I experienced alot of injustices in my life. I wasn’t allowed a sacred space growing up to freely express my emotions. But today I now give myself that gift. I am so grateful that I can let this all go. That I can honor my feelings and now reach towards forgiveness. This book I worked on for over a year and has become a life transforming experience. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders and I was able to clean out the cup and be empty to receive all the love and good in this world in my life. I am open and receptive. I am free.
